Lost Treasures of Mughal Intellectual History: The Hanefit ̱ e-Māturīdite Theological Pamphlets of Dāru’l-Ulūm Deoband and Its Records

During almost more than three hundred years of an ideal pro-Islamic reign, the Mughals, the flag carriers of Sunni Scholastic Theology in Indian Subcontinent, has an excellent scholarship in the preserving of Sunni Theology in their oikumene. When Maturidite scholastic theology comes to the matter, the whole Transoxiana and the Khorasan lands and scholars have only the ruling position in the terms of their representation. Apart from the geographical and cultural distinction from above mentioned Muslim Lands, the Mughal Muslim Academia has a prolific history and scholarship in the Hanefite-Maturidite theology or the Muslim Divine Philosophy. The works of early Mughal scholars and post Mughal scholars haven’t get much attention in the modern Islamic academia or Turkish-Western academic circle. By revealing the truth of this negligence to Indian Maturidite theological works, hidden and lost treasures written in all sorts of scholastic theology including Divine Attributes, the Kalam Cosmological argument, epistemology, the Kalam Natural Philosophy, the Anti- Islamic and Hellenistic philosophy, the eschatology, the inter-intra religious polemics and the history of Muslim of theological sects and heretics. The library of Darul ‘Ulūm Deoband has a rich collection of lost and damaged manuscripts of Hanefite Maturidite theology written during the Mughals. Revealing their data, history, contents, methodology and language, it might be a turning point in the history of Sunni scholastic theology.
